This new status enables us to offer you the peace of mind of a high quality duplex coating system that is reliable, quality controlled and backed by a guarantee of up to 25 years. The process is intended for any mild steel substrate, architectural or structural. The first stage involves hot dip galvanizing of the mild steel components in accordance with BS EN ISO 1461:2009. Full mechanical and chemical treatment of this coating then allows a further application of powder topcoat in accordance with BS EN 123428:2005. The coating is then cured, stacked and packaged ready for return for use in its intended application.
The coating has been specifically formulated using TGIC free technology and conforms with all European architectural finishing standards. As an architectural coating it offers unrivalled exterior and interior durability and colour retention.
Factory 1 houses McGregor Young's Head Office, a customer centre, sales function and is the location of our state-of-the-art 13,500 sq ft powder coating facility. The factory has two powder application systems and a sophisticated pre-treatments process. The larger of the two systems incorporates a 20m straight oven with a fully automated 90m running track. This system can handle customer product of up to 7m in length x 1.8m high x 600mm wide and to a maximum weight of 200kg.
Capacity can be maximized to 8m length x 2m high, but this can only be agreed by request after discussion as to the suitability of the material. The second system comprises a double pass oven accommodating work of up to 2m x 1.5m x400mm with a weight capacity of 200kg. This combination of systems means that a high production capacity is provided within one factory.
Fundamental to our declared high standard of working practise is the pre-treatment process using chromate immersion with compatibility to aluminium and galvanized steel only. Eight tanks running ride by side are involved, with a centre-line crane used to transport and dip the products being treated. A final ninth tank with moving top doors forms a dry-off oven making the total system a nine stage process. This meticulous pre-treatment regime ensures that produce surfaces are prepared with utmost integrity before paint is applied. This ensures that the finished work satisfied the tight controls and demands of 'Approved Applicator Status', a certification discipline required for the architectural market.
McGregor Young work within a fully traceable quality system, working stringently to both Akzo Nobel and Duponts high applicators standards. This status 'approved applicator' for both Akzo and Dupont is only awarded to a powder coater that is capable of achieving pre-treatment, powder application and stoving standards to the highest possible levels.
